Lifesaving Society/Exhibitors

As the leading aquatic experts in Alberta and the Northwest Territories, the Lifesaving Society serves our members, affiliates and the broader public. We prevent drowning and water related injury through aquatic training and sport, safety audits, public education and evidence-based research. We collaborate with partners to empower communities.

SwimAbilities® – Making Water Safe for All

One of our standout programs is SwimAbilities®, designed specifically for children who require additional support to learn how to swim. SwimAbilities® caters to kids aged 3-16 who benefit from a slower-paced learning environment, with caregivers providing one-on-one support in the water alongside a certified instructor. This program helps children and caregivers develop essential water safety skills, ensuring increased safety, independence, and enjoyment around water. SwimAbilities® allows children to start at any level, and they can progress to other swim programs if they feel comfortable.

Whether it's learning water routines or practicing safety supervision, caregivers will also gain valuable skills to support their children both in swimming lessons and during public swims. This program, based on the Lifesaving Society's research, empowers families, caregivers, and children to build confidence and enjoy the water safely.

For the Autism Expo 2024, we are proud to partner with the City of Edmonton, one of our valued affiliates, who runs SwimAbilities® at local facilities, including the ACT Aquatic and Recreation Centre, Jasper Place Leisure Centre, and Booster Juice Recreation Centre in Terwillegar.
